From the classic rope factory to the leading rope manufacturer

The FATZER company was founded in 1836 in Romanshorn as a rope factory and has been producing ropes of the highest quality for generations, initially mainly hemp ropes. Today, FATZER focuses on the development, manufacture and sale of technically sophisticated ropes for transport cableways, rope structures and mining. Through many years of commitment and consistent focus on the market, FATZER is now one of the leading rope manufacturers.

1836
Joachim Fatzer (1819-1885) founded the FATZER company as a hemp rope factory at the age of not even 17. The ropes for agriculture and domestic use quickly enjoy great popularity.
1850
The first Swiss steamboat marks the beginning of a new era for FATZER: the first heavy-duty ropes are manufactured. The good quality of the ropes is soon the talk of the town.
1914
The first rope lay machine with a production capacity of 15 tons is put into operation, followed shortly afterwards by a tube stranding machine and a 24-strand machine.
1952
Production capacities are expanded and the first full locked coil rope is produced.
1975
A stranding machine with a production capacity of 110 tons single weight is installed.
1976
With a diameter of 115 mm, the thickest rope to date is manufactured at FATZER.
1992
The company Fatzer AG Drahtseilwerk is incorporated into BRUGG Ropes Technology Holding Inc.
2016
The new production building in Romanshorn is opened. Part of this is a state-of-the-art machine park with a production capacity of 15,000 tons per year.
2018
All world record ropeways are equipped with ropes from FATZER. Swiss quality inspires worldwide.
2023
Great success at Interalpin in April 2023 with a completely new appearance.
