The compacted strands of the COMPACTA® rope increase the filling factor of the strands and thereby increase their load-bearing metallic cross-section. This has consistently positive effects: First, the diameter decreases; secondly, the breaking force increases by around 10 percent; and thirdly, the fatigue life of the rope increases. Thanks to the smoothed contours of the outer wires, bearing pressures around the clamps and rollers are reduced. And in the event that strands come into contact with one another, the greater contact surface reduces tension peaks. Compared to conventional ropes, they therefore have more stable diameters and are more resistant to torsion and twisting forces. Their nearly flat surface also ensures an improved friction connection to drive elements and thus reduces wear on roller, clamps and sheaves.
