August 2011: world record on a Fatzer Rope!

Swiss artist Freddy Nock achieved a spectacular world record on Saturday, 20th August 2011. The 46-year old walked to the Zugspitze mountain station on a Fatzer INTEGRA carrying rope without any safety gear and without a balancing pole.

He covered the almost one kilometre distance in close to one hour and twenty minutes, overcoming a difference in altitude of 348 metres and an incline of up to 57 percent. The Swiss native is certain to have reserved himself a spot in the Guinness Book of Records with this feat.

Safe Fatzer ropes

In some areas, Freddy Nock was suspended 150 metres above ground. Thanks to the extremely safe Fatzer ropes, he mastered the distance with great calmness: he was even able to wave to the curious onlookers of the event.

At 05:30 pm, Nock completed the final metres on the Fatzer rope before setting foot on safe ground again.

Seven world records in a single week

The event kicked off Freddy Nock’s project entitled «7 records in 7 days». With it, he intends to achieve a total of seven world records within one week in Switzerland, Germany and Austria aimed at drawing attention to the «Foundation UNESCO – Education for children in need».

July 2010: Fatzer at the Federal Gardening Show BUGA 2011

The breathtaking cable car ride from Deutsches Eck to the Fortress Ehrenbreitstein is definitely one of this year’s BUGA highlights. In search of an attractive and ecologically feasible transport connection across the Rhine River in the climate conscious 21st century, the cable car was deemed to be more eco-friendly than commuter traffic by bus. The green light was finally given to the project that had been in the works since 1951!

But not only the environmental track record is impressive: the Company Doppelmayr once again managed to achieve a world record by transporting a whopping 7600 persons per hour covering the 850 metre distance across the Rhine River in the 18 cable car cabins. The fully enclosed ropes were manufactured by Fatzer using the new M46 in plant 2. They have a diameter of 54 mm and a total length of 4540 metres. The three-rope continuous ropeway started operating after a 14-month construction period.

April 2010: up, up and away (Pictures © by Garaventa)

The largest reversible material ropeway in the Glarnese alps in the center part of Switzerland is in operation. Heavy material up to 40 tons such as jumbo drilling rigs, mobile concrete pumping systems or material containers are hung under the carrier trucks and up they go.

The second section will be ready for operation within these weeks and finally material for building the Muttsee-dam can be transported from 800 m to 2'400 m sealevel just paused by traversing a 3 km long tunnel on 1800 m sealevel between the sections.

The 90 mm quadruple FLC INTEGRA type track ropes have a MBL of 900 metric tons each and the haulropes are COMPACTA type of 58 mm diameter.

February 2010: First ropes have been produced

After having performed extensive run-in tests first FLC-ropes with a diameter of 110 mm have been produced. The brandnew stranding machine (the most modern of its kind) passed their baptism by fire triumphantly and more, even larger ropes will follow soon.

The picture shows proud and highly motivated team members of a shift. This rope is a quadruple-layer FLC-rope with a metric weight of more than 70 kgs (43 lbs/ft) and a breaking force of 1'244 tons (2'742'000 lbs), capable of lifting easily two fully loaded Airbus A380 with each 560 tons (1'235'000 lbs) take off weight.
